WEEK TWO : PRODUCTION DESIGN
Helloo,
The first master class we had was prominently based on art and production design, although we had a couple of hours on script writing.
When we arrived we had to do some small exercises, like talk to people for two minutes and then draw connections to them on a big piece of paper.
We then did a room 101 exercise to put in one quality that we would get rid of from ourselves if we could. Here is a picture of the finished table :
We then did a scriptwriting exercise of having to draw and write a scene which could be imaginary or drawn from real experiences. This was to allow us to begin the creative process of unlocking and developing ideas. Here is a picture of my finished scene:
Then the industry professional, Anna Deamer, came in and spoke to us about her experience with the industry, how she got into it and some tips on how to be successful. She set us the task of having to measure the room as if we were production designers ourselves as well. Here are some images of our plans at the end of the session:
Here is a Q & A we had with Anna Deamer:
I enjoyed todays session, it allowed me to understand what the role of a production designer was and although it is not an area I am interested in, it let me realise the extent of detail that is included in the film industry.
I think that my skills are developing well after today, I set myself the challenge of really listening and engaging with people to see how they share their ideas, which I think I did in the two minute conversation task. The thing I found most challenging about today was the scene task, especially as I wanted to share mine but then didn't as I was worried about the critic it may receive, so that is an aspect to work on before the next master class to try and get closer to my challenge. In terms of the professional challenge I was not able to develop the areas I specified much as they were not part of the class but I was able to understand the industry further.
