WEEK THREE : SOUND DESIGN

Heya,

This week we focused on Sound design this week.

The first task we did was recreate the soundtrack of Rocky using ourselves. We split into groups, dialogue, background sound, and music. We all then had to collaborate to fit the video.

Then we had to recreate sounds to a video we did not know the original soundtrack to using folly sounds, with things in the room. This included punching watermelons, ringing bells and running on the spot to recreate different effects.

Then some industry professionals came in and spoke to us about sound and how the role of sound fits so importantly into the film industry. They were Jonathon Blagrove and Matt North.

We had a detailed Q & A with them which really depicted the importance of sound, as well as hearing more about their personal stories and how they got into the industry.

I really enjoyed todays session, it was very active and really interesting as it was an area I had not considered before. I set myself the target of speaking up more when asking questions with the professionals, which I achieved by the end as I asked each of the a question, although I did struggle with this as it was not a subject I knew much about so didn't know how to direct the questions. I also was more firm with my ideas in the task of recreating the sounds, which is a step towards my personal challenge. In terms of the professional one I again couldn't move that far forward as it was not my area of interest, but was able to learn some valuable information about how the sound in film is made; which was super interesting if not my specific challenge.
